The kitchen with walnut-toned cabinetry and a deep, veined waterfall island

Keep the shell quiet. Put the richness where you touch it.

Cristina Caumel works out of Coral Gables, a few streets from this house, and led its interior from first concept through to the final fitting.

That is a wider brief than decoration. It covered the kitchen and its hidden pantry, the millwork in every room, the bathrooms, the floors, the closets, the lighting and the palette.

The result is restrained. White walls and ivory floors, with walnut and dark veining kept for the kitchen and the vanities. Glass runs the length of the living spaces, so the oaks and the pool do most of the decorating.

The expensive details are the ones you are least likely to notice. The ceilings carry linear diffusers instead of grilles. The cove lighting in the primary suite is built into the ceiling. Every closet is built, not bought as a kit.

Her practice covers interior and exterior design, material and finish selection, site planning and project management, working across Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, South Miami, Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay and Kendall.
